Venezuela is located in northern South America on the Atlantic Ocean. The coast is about 2800 km long. Venezuela can be divided into five geographical areas: the Andes, the Llanos, the Maracaibo lowlands, the Guiana highlands and the Venezuelan Caribbean islands. The highest mountain is the Pico Bolivar with 4981 m asl. Because of the strong biodiversity and widespread endemism, Venezuela is counted among the 17 megadiverse countries. Nature is protected, among other things, by 43 national parks. For example, almost 600 bird species have been identified in the Henri Pittier National Park. In all, over 62% of the country's land is said to be protected, making it the largest percentage of any country in South and North America that would have been protected. With its huge oil resources, Venezuela could be one of the richest countries on earth, but currently more than 90% of the population must be considered poor. Unfortunately Venezuela has not yet managed to combat the world's highest rate of deforestation and catastrophic inflation, leaving tourism at a low point. But that can change, because the bird life alone is one of the most wonderful on earth. This multilingual (en, de, es, fr, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of Venezuela in color. As a bonus, links to HD videos of more than 70 bird species are included. Where available, links to the valuable websites of UNESCO, BirdLife International and the Ramsar Organization are provided, which characterize the country and help to find the best sites for birdwatching.
