Extravagant Indulgence – Lions Lounge in Leogang

Most luxury travel content is written by people who have never paid for a business class ticket in their life. Roger Hohl (Executive Editor) started Luxvisor in 2006, long before "travel blogging" was a thing, because he believed luxury travel deserved honest, independent journalism. Nearly two decades later, that belief hasn't changed. After travelling independently across the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, he grew tired of reviews that read like press releases and rankings that were quietly sponsored. Every seat tested. Every hotel paid for. Every opinion his own. He writes for readers who already know what good looks like, and want to know what's actually worth the money.

Must Read

One would not expect to find such a bar in the midst of the Salzburg mountains, but rather in trendy cities. The extravagant Lions Lounge in Leogang is the right address for lovers of fine wines, whiskey, rum, brandies, cocktails, and fine cigars. The Lions Spirit No. 1, a rarity from master distiller Sigi Herzog, is a special house specialty.

Lounge with a private touch

The Lions Lounge belongs to Hotel Der Löwe, but it is miles away from a classic hotel bar. This is already expressed by the extravagant exterior facade of the bar. It consists of around 600 welded pipe pieces that reflect the themes of bottle, glass, and cigar. The pipe motifs are consistently implemented on the door and in the interior. The resulting extraordinary play of light and the colorful lounge furniture almost give the room a private touch.

200 top wines and exquisite digestifs

The Lions Lounge is an absolute oasis of indulgence – perfectly combining a bar, cigar lounge, and walk-in wine cellar with stylish design. Around 200 top wines, a remarkable selection of whiskey, rum, and regional brandies satisfy the guest’s exclusive desires. Cigar smokers also get their money’s worth here, although the humidor offers a nice but not excessively exclusive selection of cigars.

As a specialty, host Rupert Madreiter likes to present the “Lions Spirit No. 1”, which he created with Saalfelden master distiller Siegfried Herzog. The limited special edition is a barrel-aged Williams of the highest quality. The barrel note impressively rounds off the fruity opulent pear bouquet.

Award-winning

It is not surprising that the Austrian wine and gourmet magazine Falstaff awarded the lounge with 90 out of 100 points and three Falstaff glasses in its current bar and spirits guide: “Very well-kept and very cozy – a lounge where you simply feel comfortable. A place to drink, smoke, browse and taste.”
