Singapore Airlines Unveils Its New Long-Haul Cabins: A New First Class Double Bed and a Business Class Built by Recaro, Arriving From Late 2027

Singapore Airlines is investing more than 1.4 billion euros in new long-haul cabins: a First Class with the largest double bed in commercial aviation and a Business Class made by Recaro, from the second half of 2027.

Singapore Airlines has shown the cabins that will define its long-haul flying for the next decade. The airline is putting more than 1.4 billion euros (two billion Singapore dollars) into new products for First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class. The rollout begins in the second half of 2027.

First Class for Two

The headline is a First Class that takes travelling as a pair seriously. The two centre seats can be turned into a sofa by day and, at night, into what the airline calls the largest double bed in commercial aviation: 80 inches (203 cm) long and 60 inches (152 cm) wide. A divider between the centre seats lowers fully when companions want a shared space, and every seat has a large table that allows two guests to dine facing each other.

Curved sliding doors and side walls provide privacy, with Poltrona Frau leather and wall panels in the airline’s batik motif. Each suite has electrically adjustable side wings, lumbar support, armrests, leg rest and an ottoman with a compartment for cabin baggage underneath. A smart cabin control, linked to the myKrisWorld profile, stores preferred seat positions and lighting for later flights; Singapore Airlines says it is a world first. Entertainment comes on a 32-inch 4K touchscreen with spatial audio and wireless Bang & Olufsen headphones. Paradies, a German specialist, supplies the new mattress topper.

PriestmanGoode designed the First Class, and Collins Aerospace builds the seats. It is laid out 1-2-1 with direct aisle access: six seats on the Boeing 777-9 and four on the Airbus A350-900ULR, where the airline introduces First Class for the first time.

A Business Class Made in Germany

For the new Business Class, Singapore Airlines has chosen Recaro Aircraft Seating, the first time it has given such an order to a German manufacturer. Designworks created the seat, which is meant to work equally well for working, dining, relaxing and sleeping. It has full-grain leather with embroidered details, a more natural recline and a bed 79 inches (201 cm) long and up to 24 inches (61 cm) wide.

Sliding doors and electrically adjustable dividers let guests set their own level of privacy. At selected centre seats the dividers can be lowered to form a double bed. The table can be stowed at an angle to leave more room for the feet, and screens of up to 22 inches in 4K come with spatial audio and Bluetooth pairing.

Which Aircraft, and When

The new cabins arrive from the second half of 2027. The future Boeing 777-9 fleet gets all four classes; 41 Airbus A350-900 and A350-900ULR aircraft are being refitted with the new Business Class. Premium Economy and Economy Class, designed by Factorydesign with seats from Collins Aerospace, also get more space and new entertainment.

The airline also plans to renew its SilverKris lounges worldwide, including at Singapore Changi, with an investment of more than 130 million Singapore dollars. A new KrisWorld entertainment system, new dining and drinks, and high-speed internet complete the package.
