Casablanca has a new five-star address. Onomo Collection, the more exclusive line of the Africa-focused hotel group Onomo, has unveiled Le Square, its first boutique hotel, in the Gauthier quarter, a few steps from the Arab League Park and not far from the historic centre.

The building is by the architect Salma Dioury and reinterprets the influences that shaped the city, from Haussmann-style urbanism to Art Deco, with soft lines, generous openings and curved balconies. Behind it are Onomo and the Berrada and Benabdeljelil families, who are developing the project through Siyame.

Sand Tones and Moroccan Craft

Inside, the studio MID, Michelangeli Design has chosen arches, sand tones, light curtains, bas-reliefs inspired by the moucharabieh, worked wood and touches of bronze. Bathrooms use sand-coloured tadelakt, and the rooms carry works by local artists and old postcards of Casablanca.

The 60 rooms and suites range from 23 to 62 square metres. Categories run from Standard to Superior rooms with views of the city or, with a private balcony, of the Hassan II Mosque, up to suites overlooking the Twin Center, the Marina and the rooftops.

Café, Restaurant, Spa

On the ground floor, the Square Club is an all-day coffee lounge. On the eighth floor, the restaurant and bar HÉDY styles itself as the apartment of a cosmopolitan host, with a mid-century look and a menu rooted in French classics with Moroccan twists, such as beef tartare with harissa or a “Paris-Casablanca” with amlou. Chef Fayçal Bettioui contributed to the concept, and guest collaborations are planned.

The Square Spa works with the Marrakech brand Botanika, which is vegan, Ecocert-certified and made in Morocco, with treatments based on argan oil, orange blossom and lavender, plus a fitness room. Two small meeting rooms, Le Studio and L’Atelier, complete the offer.
