Hamburg’s grand hotel on the Inner Alster has been voted the best in Europe. At the first Condé Nast Traveller Germany Readers’ Choice Awards, held on 5 November 2026, Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten won two categories: “Best Hotel in Europe” and “Best City Hotel in Germany, Austria and Switzerland”. Hamburg itself was also recognised as an outstanding destination.

Chosen by Readers

The awards are decided by the magazine’s readers, based on their own experiences and ratings, which the hotel stresses gives the title particular weight. Condé Nast Traveller Germany launched in autumn 2024 and publishes six times a year. This is the first time the Readers’ Choice Awards have been presented in the German-speaking world.

“What makes this recognition particularly meaningful is that it comes directly from our guests,” says Ingo C. Peters, managing director of the hotel, who calls it a tribute to the whole team.

A Hamburg Institution Since 1897

The hotel opened in 1897 on the Neuer Jungfernstieg and counts 156 rooms and suites. It belongs to the Fairmont brand. The press release describes the new interior style as fresh and unconventional, yet classic and timelessly elegant.
